POSITION OVERVIEW

Harbor Health is seeking an Actuarial Intern to join our team as we build an entirely new integrated healthcare delivery and payment model in Texas. This role requires an emerging background in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data analysis, and development of actuarial models. As a payvider organization, you'll work with both clinical care data and health plan analytics to help us co-create health with those who get, give, and pay for it. This internship offers hands-on experience analyzing large-scale health data to improve member outcomes and optimize our integrated care delivery system.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support actuarial model development, updates, and maintenance
  • Design and develop analyses using a broad range of actuarial and data science techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and anomalies in health data
  • Analyze healthcare data to identify trends, conduct root cause analysis of problems, and suggest areas for process improvement
  • Test solutions for functionality and integrity; troubleshoot and resolve errors
  • Establish repeatable processes and documentation for ongoing efforts
 

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Junior or senior year of college majoring in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science or related quantitative field
  • Foundational knowledge of data analytics, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, and database structures
  • Working knowledge of Excel, SQL, and Python (including libraries like NumPy and pandas) for data analysis and modeling
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to manage own schedule and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to translate complex findings for diverse stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills with openness to feedback
  • Flexibility in implementation and collaboration with cross-functional teams
