This complement of extraordinary early-career scholars will play an active role in a vibrant scholarly community and fully participate in the life of their academic home at the college. Faculty Fellows teach two undergraduate courses (or their equivalent) relevant to their scholarly interests and experience, conduct research and scholarship in the candidate's discipline, and receive mentoring and professional development support from the department/program, college, and university. departmental mentoring and College-wide professional development support. This is a two-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.

• American Studies

• Anthropology

• Art History

• Neuroscience & Behavior

• Spanish and Latin American Cultures

American Studies

The Department of American Studies welcomes applications for a Barnard Faculty Fellow with particular interests in the research areas of abolition, conservatism, immigration, and labor. We also have interest in scholars with expertise in GIS or digital humanities.

Fellows would teach courses in the form of topical research seminars, methods seminars, and introductory-level lecture courses.

We offer a smaller department that is ideal for mentoring and has been particularly focused on community building across ranks. In addition to shared meals, our community building practices include syllabus reviews, internal teaching evaluations, manuscript workshops, research talks, and in the case of faculty fellows, we could also offer practice job talks.

Terminal degree in a related discipline, with all requirements for the degree completed by the time of hiring offer.

• 1 representative publication or single writing sample preferably <30 pages (e.g. journal article, book chapter, dissertation chapter);

Salary: $75,000

This salary for this position is fixed and non-negotiable. Barnard Early-Career Faculty Fellows are benefit-eligible and eligible to apply for $4,000 annual Faculty Research Grants.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
