Hazardous Waste Technician

Full-time employment: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $25 – $26/hr commensurate with experience

Position Overview:

Fort Bragg is a military installation of the United States Army in North Carolina, and is one of the largest military installations in the world by population, with over 52,000 military personnel.

Job duties include supporting to the Hazardous Waste Program by completing inspection of waste storage areas, inspection of emergency response equipment, and segregation of waste. Candidate must be able to perform physical tasks such as walking while carrying at least 20 lbs for extended periods of time. Candidate should also be capable of lifting and carrying 50 lbs for a short duration and be able to drag 80 pounds for a short duration.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma.
• Class B CDL.
• Candidate must be able to perform physical tasks such as walking while carrying at least 20 lbs for extended periods of time.
• Candidate must be capable of lifting and carrying 50 lbs for a short duration.
• Candidate must be able to drag 80 pounds for a short duration.
• Ability and willingness to work in challenging conditions, working in hot, humid weather while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Must be comfortable working as part of a team.
• Stand and lift materials for long periods of time.
• Strong work ethic.

Preferred candidate will also have:

• Completed 40-Hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and annual refreshers, as appropriate.
• The Hazardous and Tanker Endorsement on their CDL.
• Experience working around hazardous waste.
• The ability to safely operate hand trucks and/or forklifts.

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen, have a current driver’s license, be able to pass a background security investigation, and have an original copy of their birth certificate. Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug test. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Schedule will be determined by work activities and may exceed 8 hours in one day.
