Only bilingual (fluent in Spanish) position(s) exist for this recruitment. Bilingual candidates MUST indicate their fluency on the their Standard State Application (STD 678).

The Office Technician (Typing) - Employment Office (Bilingual) will be directed by the Staff Services Manager I in the Employment Office at the Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Receive a heavy volume of walk-in and telephone inquiries.
• Check drop box every morning and date stamp incoming applications.
• Take fingerprints and photographs of current employees, prospective employees, and non-employees.
• Track dates on hiring files, print applications after the final filing date, contact candidates who have not returned their forms.
• Track conditional hire files to ensure candidates are contacted within five (5) days and again after ten (10) days to ensure forms are received.
• Send forms and applications to hiring supervisors.
• Set up and monitor all hiring files to ensure proper placement of applications.
• Prepare interview schedules and send out notices to candidates.
• Ensure applications, interview schedule and signage are prepared prior to the interview date.
• Copy all interview panel notes after the interviews for the job control file.
• Update and maintain the Recruitment log.
• Assist with tracking and monitoring the clearance process for students entering the Psychiatric Technician Program (PTP).
• Order and maintain office supplies and forms, including the bid process for goods.
• Bilingual (fluent in Spanish).

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

*If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant’s name may be removed from the eligibility list.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
  • The position(s) require(s) fluency in the Spanish language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.

This position has been designated as Bilingual Required, with services to be provided in English and Spanish. The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.  Only bilingual (fluent in Spanish) position(s) exist for this recruitment. Bilingual candidates MUST indicate their fluency on their Standard State Application (STD 678).

Candidates that believe they meet the Minimum Qualifications based on a pattern of education from the classification description (specifications)  MUST provide a copy of your unofficial college transcripts, that include date degree conferred, if applicable, along with your application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position. Higher degrees cannot be accepted without evidence of the lower degree that leads to it. Please note: foreign transcripts must include a verification for US equivalency through an independent company. 

If using Civil Service Out of Class (OOC) experience to meet minimum qualifications, you MUST provide a copy of the approved OOC Completion Memorandum certifying your OOC experience. Failure to submit the required documents will result in the OOC experience not being applied towards meeting the minimum qualifications of the classification.

*This position requires candidates to pass a Medical Evaluation. You will be required to submit to a Medical Evaluation and receive clearance prior to being hired.

  • Resume is optional. It may be included, but is not required.
  • Other - You MUST submit a valid typing certificate with a minimum speed of 40  NET WPM that meets  CalHR Requirements . Typing tests for certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person. Candidates that are current State employees in a typing classification DO NOT need to submit a typing certificate.
