The Summer Copy Editor collaborates with OMN editors to proofread and edit all written content for print and online platforms, including The Daily Barometer, Beaver’s Digest, Prism, DAMchic, blogs, orangemedianetwork.com, marketing, and social media posts. The employment dates are: Start: June 16, 2025 End: September 8, 2025 Pay rate: 10 hours/week, $638/month Responsibilities include: Fact-checking, copyediting, and proofreading for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and AP Style across all OMN publications Covering and editing breaking news and sports, including nights and weekends Reviewing contributors’ notes and recordings for accuracy Attending weekly meetings with the adviser Participating in production as needed Responding promptly to emails, messages, and calls Using Basecamp for project management Reporting ethical, legal, or personnel issues immediately Following OMN policies and maintaining professionalism Ensuring content promotes equitable representation and inclusion Qualifications: Enrolled in high school, community college, or university Meet academic standing requirements (e.g., 6 credit hours for undergraduates, etc.) Additional qualifications include: Knowledge of fact-checking strategies Willingness to learn AP Style and adhere to SPJ Code of Ethics Flexibility to work nights and weekends Strong writing, communication, and public speaking skills Organized and reliable Ability to handle feedback professionally Completion of On-Boarding Curriculum Preferred qualifications include prior experience as a paid OMN writer, participation in OMN training, and knowledge of AP Style.
