Traveling Project Manager - Construction - Base Salary to 150k/year - Kansas City, MO

  • Our client is a national MEP company in multiple states with a focus on construction projects. They are looking for a Traveling Project Manager for their team. The Traveling Project Manager will be responsible for the oversight of building large complex projects in a variety of markets including healthcare, mission critical, energy and industrial and will manage field staff, contract documents, subcontractor performance, vendor compliance, budgets, costs, safety, profitability, and statutory and legal compliance as well as maintain constructive relationships and communicate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, inspectors, community officials and company staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee detailed pre-construction reviews for construction projects, ensuring compliance with Building Management System (BMS) standards, verifying contract alignment, and reviewing estimates and Requests for Information (RFIs) to meet client expectations and project cost objectives while minimizing risks.
  • Formulate comprehensive purchasing strategies, detailed project flow charts, and realistic schedules tailored to construction projects, ensuring seamless execution and adherence to contractual timelines and specifications.
  • Manage and evaluate subcontractor performance on construction sites, ensuring strict adherence to contract documents, quality standards, and project timelines to deliver superior project outcomes.
  • Direct the procurement process for major construction equipment, negotiating with vendors to secure cost-effective, timely deliveries that align with project budgets and schedules.
  • Establish and maintain detailed project schedules for construction activities, coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure milestones are met and projects are completed on time per contract requirements.
  • Vigilantly monitor and manage costs related to labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment for construction projects, implementing strategies to prevent budget overruns and optimizing financial performance.
  • Develop, manage, and oversee financial plans, budgets, and forecasts for construction projects, analyzing financial data to minimize risks, reduce variances, and maximize contributions to company revenue and profitability.
  • Leverage data analytics tools to enhance construction project management, enabling real-time risk assessment, project tracking, and process standardization to improve operational efficiency and decision-making.
  • Supervise the preparation and updating of detailed project reports, including financial and progress updates, and provide accurate project billings to maintain transparency and support client and stakeholder communication.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with construction clients, addressing their needs and concerns while actively contributing to business development efforts to secure new construction projects and partnerships.
  • Enforce a safe work environment on construction sites, ensuring compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and company safety policies, while actively promoting a culture of safety awareness across teams and projects.
  • Inspire and lead construction project teams, fostering collaboration, providing mentorship, and delivering constructive performance feedback to enhance team cohesion, productivity, and professional growth.
  • Take a leadership role in developing the construction management department, establishing standardized processes, operational frameworks, and new service divisions to support long-term organizational growth.
  • Lead effective team meetings to align construction teams with project goals, communicate objectives clearly, and champion corporate change initiatives by modeling adaptability and a positive approach to evolving project demands.
  • Deliver polished quarterly performance updates to corporate leadership, highlighting construction project successes, and conduct engaging training presentations for stakeholders to demonstrate expertise and build confidence in project outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college/university or equivalent experience, with 3+ years of related work experience in MEP commercial construction preferred; military, public service, or on-the-job training may substitute as determined by management.
  • Deliver accurate, high-quality work on time for large-scale MEP construction projects, implementing best practice standards with meticulous attention to detail while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple MEP construction projects with excellent organizational skills, ensuring timely follow-up on inquiries and efficient coordination across teams and stakeholders.
  • Utilize MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and learn company-specific software, tools, and systems to support project management, budgeting, and operational needs for MEP commercial construction.
  • Oversee project budgets to maximize profitability, generate future work through strong client relationships, and drive business growth for the MEP contractor while traveling as required.

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 130k - 150k/year range
