Role Summary:
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating their assigned department/function to consistently deliver desired results. The role is responsible for developing a successful team by hiring qualified personnel, utilizing effective communication and motivational techniques, providing ongoing performance management and for ensuring ongoing personal and professional development of self and staff. The role is also accountable for providing technical support to the team; performing ongoing problem analysis and resolution; and for ensuring safety, security and housekeeping objectives are achieved. In addition, this role will be responsible for ensuring quality, customer service, and cost efficiency standards are being met.
Responsibilities:
• Maintains effective communications and partnerships with peers (including alternate shifts) and additional warehouse management staff to ensure operations are seamlessly transitioned. Engages in professional relationship building with team.
• Monitor daily distribution of all products, including accurate records of all transactions, purchase orders, packing slips, sales orders, product transfers and inventory counts. Ensures accurate picking transactions.
• Oversee resolution of discrepancies regarding miss picks, BOL related issues, and cycle counting related discrepancies generated by the warehouse team.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards by ensuring policies and processes are properly documented and implemented and by ensuring all employees are trained in standard operating procedures.
• Plans labor requirements based on operation workloads and skill sets needed and recommends staffing needs to warehouse manager. Assists with interviews.
• Partners with other departments to maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping workstations neat, complying with food safety regulations, company work rules and all applicable company operating standards.
• Provides appropriate information during team talks, department meetings and during warehouse announcements.
• Develops and maintains quality and productivity metrics and implements strategic process improvements to increase warehouse productivity, improve quality and customer experience.
• Assists management in implementing changes, as required. Addresses inactivity, excessive breaks, tardies, absences, pallet ID issues, and focuses attention on reducing operator transition time.
• Ensures receiving and put away processes are conducted per guidelines.
• Ensures material issuing process is conducted per guidelines.
Customarily meets with employees receiving quality reports and/or coaching & development reports. Regularly directs the work of two or more full-time employees or their equivalent. Makes suggestions and recommendations for these employees regarding performance and change of status, including transfer, advancement, termination, and hiring. Assists with performance evaluations.
• Assume day-to-day operational responsibility of his/her shift in the absence of the warehouse manager.
• Brainstorms and suggests new ideas on how to improve processes and operational flows to management.
• Supervises warehouse environment, including conducting regular walk-throughs, auditing behaviors, documenting issues, addressing safety concerns and effecting resolution of any logistics related issues.
• Effectively performs administrative aspects of position, including but not limited to, developing and administering corrective action documents, reviewing timesheets, submitting payroll change forms, approving time worked, vacation and time off requests, coordinating system access and security levels and maintaining records on powered industrial vehicles.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations Management, and/or Business is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a warehouse environment.
• Minimum 2 years as a supervisor or higher-level management position.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• PC literate with experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Proficiency in inventory software, databases, and systems.
• Ability to operate powered industrial vehicles.
• Ability to read and/or understand written and/or verbal policy, instruction and direction in English required.
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time and walk the distribution center and surrounding areas as needed.
• Strong leadership, good judgment, fast learner, able to adapt quickly in fast paced environment.
• Proven traits in dependability, initiative, high energy, and proficient in time management.
• Excellent people development and coaching skills.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
• Has developed expertise typically through a combination of job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience.
Other Job Requirements:
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds, bend, and walk and climb stairs.
• Must be able to work in a cold environment for duration of shift.
• Varying work schedules to meet client demand is sometimes required.
